Lotus flower photo with the DA 70mm f/2.4 lens
You might have read about lens choices for portraits in many Pentax forums. While the DA50-200 and the new DA*50-135/2.8 offer a lot of flexibility with good wide open aperture, personally, my vote always go to the DA70.
Amazing what you can do with just a piece of black cloth. Nevertheless, I will like to share with how I took the shots, as in what camera setting was used, exposure, etc.
I just bought the FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited!
My reasons are:
~50mm angle of view
Aperture f/1.8
Very sharp with very high resolving power!
Excellent bokeh
It’s been raining the whole afternoon today…but still eager to take some shots before the day ends.
This is the last missing piece in my ‘quest’ to own all three Pentax pancake DA lenses. I love the pancake lenses for its small physical sizes, and covers all the important focal lengths. This is especially useful and beneficial for me when I travel during my business trips where I don’t have to carry [...]
What Pentax lenses did Wesley use to shoot this wedding with a K10D?
By default, the DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED AL does not have a favorable minimum working distance for macro work, not does it really provide good magnification. I don’t have a dedicated macro lens, and is probably not too keen to get one. As the saying goes, there is always more than a way to skin [...]
How excited it was when I was told the distributor had just received one copy each of the highly anticipated DA* lenses, i.e. DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED AL SDM, and DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 ED AL SDM. I tested it for about an hour, and initial impressive is very positive.
I just love close focusing lenses, and in the Pentax lens lineup, there are actually quite a few lenses that possessed this capability. The P-DA 18-55m for one focuses closer than the DA 16-45, while the DA14 can focus almost as close as the D-FA 50mm f/2.8 macro. Nevertheless, there’s one that really amazes me…the [...]
Pete Fang has just created an extensive post documenting his 7-day vacation in Greece. In addition to enjoying the superb photos, we get to peek into the equipment he brought along, plus some related tips and tricks.
Ever wondered how a 15mm field of view looks like? On a recent trip back to my hometown, Penang, I chanced upon a camera shop having the Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6 EX DC in Pentax K-mount.
I took this photo with my K10D plus the smc P-DA 40mm f/2.8 Limited at wide open aperture.
First of all, the field of view in 35mm terms is equivalent to 60mm, which is not really standard lens range, and the primary reason I got it is because it is very sharp at wide open aperture, and it makes the Pentax K10D look real cool.
Using the Canon 500D to turn the DA 70 into a limited macro lens at a maximum aperture of f/2.4.
I recently did a fashion show shoot using the DA 70mm at f/2.4 on my K10D. Frankly, I find the autofocusing capability to be way better than the Canon 30D which I used together with 24-105L and 70-300 IS USM lenses.

Note:This post is “obsolete” – for ISO1600 images from production Pentax K10D cameras, go here.
Digital SLR “Image quality” these days is synonymous with the level of high-ISO image performance, and it would seem from the set of early Firmaware Version 0.32 pictures, that the Pentax K10 is no slouch in this department. To my eyes, [...]
