Pentax DA 70 macro!
Posted by David Chin on May 10th, 2007 in Pentax K10D ImagesI recently tested using the DA 70 with the Canon 500D.
In case you’re wondering, the 500D is not the successor to Canon’s 400D dSLR, rather it’s a relatively unknown accessory i.e. a double aspherical glass element use for closer focusing when mounted on any lens (on the filter thread) from 50mm onwards, at a working distance of 500mm (hence 500D).
By doing this, I essentially turned the DA 70 into a limited macro lens at a maximum aperture of f/2.4.
Cool!
The DA 70 is already famed for good sharpness, contrast and excellent bokeh at wide open, and having this new found capability, I can focus a little close to the subject, which increased the magnification ratio.
This is not a true macro setup, but good enough to take some real good close up shot.
Also, there’s hardly any weight penalty at all.
I find this combination very useful for my nature photography work.
