Pentax K10D User Reviews – The Giant List

Posted by David Chin on November 23rd, 2006 in Pentax K10D Reviews

In addition to reviews from professional websites, I often find reviews from actual users to be helpful in evaluating whether a camera is worth the purchase or not. Here then is a collection of links to reports and impressions from owners of Pentax K10 D owners together with a summary or two:

Jeff of Tulsa’s K10D Review

  1. Click here to read his nicely-written review
  2. Summary: Good autofocus performance, if slightly slower than the Nikon D50 in lowlight situations. Camera feel and layout of the controls are better than the Nikon cameras he had owned. He recommends purchasing a strong neck strap to bear the weight of the K10D. A Pentax 2-year extended warranty costs $25.

Paul Z’s K10D Review

Click here to read his pretty comprehensive review, where he talks about:

  • Build quality
  • K10D vs K100D: AF speed comparison, feel of the grip, viewfinder, JPEG continuous shooting
  • K10D vs Nikon D80: Viewfinder
  • LCD visibility outdoors
  • How long it took for the initial charging of the battery, and why he decided not to purchase an NP400 compatible battery
  • His impressions of lens build quality re: smc Pentax DA J 16-45mm F4.0 ED/AL vs smc P-DA 18-55mm F4-5.6

Miscellaneous K10D Reviews from Various Contributors

  1. In this “First Impressions” report, Sam finds that the Pentax K10D feels very much like the Nikon D200, robust and solid. The feel of the Sony Alpha A100 and Nikon D80 are insubstantial in comparison. Autofocus performance is also superior vs the Pentax *ist DS camera.
  2. Mark Rinella finds that the K10D image quality and viewfinder are excellent, but has to send his camera back for a backfocus problem with the Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited lens to be fixed.

The D-BG2 Battery Grip

Clavestone reports that the K10D keeps track of the battery levels in both the battery in the camera and the battery in the grip. For convenience, the D-BG2 also sports a catch for a spare SD card.

I just got one on Friday. Steeper learning curve than the Canon Digital Rebel it replaces, but I love it already for using with trains at dusk! Pics on Flickr, and more later….
